Barger Bags Surfer Cover

In the world of action sports the best way to gauge someone’s success comes down to media coverage. Bottom line, you gotta get covers if you wanna get some serious currency. That’s why were so stoked to see Kai Barger blowing up on the cover of one of the best mags in the surf industry.
Kai bagged the cover of Surfer with a huge, fins-free, frontside hack at Trestles. On a perfect day when many of surfing’s luminaries were in the water, Kai backed up the hype with a stunning performance.
“I am super-psyched,” says Jason Kenworthy, Surf team mentor, “there were a lot of good guys out that day–Slater, Jordy–but Barger just stepped it up and took care of business.”
Kai’s reaction to landing his first, not to mention 6.0’s first, major U.S. surf cover?
“Brah, I feel like I finally did something in my life. Since the cover came out even my enemies are my friends.”
Funny thing is this session almost didn’t happen for Kai. Seems he was having a hard time finding a ride to Lowers, and when he did finally show up he got hassled by Kenworthy for having his 6.0 sticker upside down.
“But then when the cover came out I had to put my foot in my mouth, because the upside down 6.0 sticker is the only thing that was right side up in the final image,” Kenworthy laughs. “You couldn’t buy better sticker placement.”
That’s what you call showing up and blowing up.
The cover just lets the world know what we’ve known all along: Kai Barger is going places…fast.
As you know, the 6.0 surf crew is loaded with talent. So who do you think should get the next cover? Hit us in the comments and let us know your mind.
