6.0 Surf Goes Huge

The Boost Mobile Pro may have just started, but this weekend was all about the Nike 6.0 surf team. A huge congratulation goes out to Casey Brown, who won the Vans El Ponto Loco event in Carlsbad, CA. Casey held off Dillon Perillo, Jason Collins and Brad Ettinger for his first (and 6.0’s first) WQS victory.

“I haven’t won an event in such a long time,” Brown said. “It’s a good confidence booster because I can’t remember the last time I won an event.”

Casey will try to build off this massive win when he heads over to Spain for another ‘QS event. But, Casey wasn’t the only 6.0 rider to come up victorious in Carlsbad. Running in conjunction with the El Ponto Loco event was the Billabong Pro Junior, which Nat Young won in dramatic come-from-behind fashion.

“I’m so stoked with the win,” Young said. “I got kind of lucky because Blake (Jones) had the 9.00 and he would have won if he was able to find a second score, but I’m stoked with the win.”

With the victory Nat locks up the No. 3 spot on the ASP North America Pro Junior Series, putting himself in a great position to qualify for the Billabong ASP World Junior Championships.

Rounding out an insane weekend for 6.0’s surf team, Riley Metcalf won the NSSA Open Men’s Division at Huntington Beach. With the win, Riley earned NSSA Surfer of the Week honors. And, our newest team member, Ian Gentil, made the finals in four divisions at the NSSA event in Hawaii, coming away with two titles.

Not bad for a weekend’s worth of work. Don’t be surprised if you see the team wearing dark shades, ’cause the future is bright.

Now that Casey’s broken the seal with the team’s first ‘QS win, who do you think will do it next?
